Government expenditure during April-August stood at ₹20.78 lakh crore, up from ₹18.80 lakh crore in the year-ago period. Capital expenditure rose to ₹5.10 lakh crore from ₹4.31 lakh crore last year. Total government receipts during April-August stood at ₹13.67 lakh crore, compared with ₹12.82 lakh crore in the corresponding period last year.
Q1 FY27 fiscal deficit During the April-June quarter of FY27, India’s fiscal deficit stood at ₹3.08 lakh crore , accounting for 18.2% of the full-year Budget Estimate, compared with 17.9% in the corresponding period last year. The Centre’s finances in the first quarter were supported by higher tax collections. Net tax revenue rose to ₹6.36 lakh crore, or 22.2% of the FY27 Budget Estimate, from around ₹5.4 lakh crore a year earlier.
Non-tax revenue also increased to ₹3.8 lakh crore from ₹3.7 lakh crore. The Centre’s total expenditure stood at ₹13.57 lakh crore in Q1 FY27, or 25.4% of the full-year Budget Estimate, compared with 24.1% in the year-ago period. Capital expenditure rose to ₹3.4 lakh crore from ₹2.75 lakh crore a year earlier.
